Bulls make charge up NBA futures list

A few days have now passed since the NBA Draft, giving bettors, fans and the bookmakers time to digest all the picks and all the wheeling and dealing of draft night. How has the draft impacted NBA futures?
The simple answer is, hardly at all.
It's pretty hard for NBA Draft moves to make much of a difference to the NBA futures when the top teams in the league either didn't have a pick in the first round (the Lakers), or their first pick came so late in the opening round that whoever they chose has no chance of making a real impact this season (see the Celtics and the Pistons).
After all the dust cleared on draft day, the Celtics are still the NBA title favorites at +275 odds at online sportsbook . Their NBA Finals dance partners, the Lakers, check in right behind the Celts at +300.
The Celtics' first-round pick, J.R. Giddens, is essentially meaningless with the trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen continuing to lead the charge in Boston, while the Lakers' first-round pick was sent to Memphis in the Pau Gasol trade.
The teams that did snag the top talent in the draft are still a few players and likely a few years away from making a run at an NBA title. The Chicago Bulls, who got lucky in the lottery and had Derrick Rose fall into their lap, were considered to be a title contender heading into last season before they imploded.
Rose is a great addition to a Bulls squad that will need to do some house-cleaning to address an overload of guards. With Rose in the fold and everything else up in the air, the Bulls are currently a +2200 underdog to bring the NBA Championship back to Chicago.
The Miami Heat may have won a title just three years ago but after last year's dreadful 15-67 season, NBA titles are the last thing on anyone's mind in Miami. Drafting college star Michael Beasley should speed up the rebuilding process around oft-injured Dwyane Wade, as would the re-signing of Shawn Marion.
It may not matter much if Marion ends up getting dealt, though, as the Heat still have a number of other holes to fill before they can rejoin the NBA's elite. It's no wonder the Heat are a +4000 long shot on online sportsbook 's NBA Championship future odds list.
