Centurion Boats at The Glen Preview

advertisement
No. 20 Tony Stewart

For the second time this season, the Sprint Cup Series adds right turns to the equation this weekend with a road-course race on the schedule at Watkins Glen International.

Sunday's Centurion Boats at The Glen follows the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway as the second (and final) road course race of the season. Back at Infineon in June Kyle Busch was a surprise winner, as he claimed his first NASCAR victory away from the oval.

Busch, who leads the Series in points and wins, is coming off a disappointing 36th-place finish at Pocono Raceway last weekend and is a +700 underdog at NASCAR odds lists to add an eighth win to his total at Watkins Glen.

Last year Tony Stewart recorded his fourth career win at The Glen, which includes winning three of the last four Cup races held there. Stewart's other wins came in 2005, 2004, and 2002. Even though Stewart has struggled at times this season, and is still looking for his first win of the year, he's the co-favorite in this weekend's race at +400 at .

Sharing +400 odds with Stewart is another four-time winner at the Glen, Jeff Gordon. Gordon last took the checkered flag at The Glen in 2001, while his other three wins came in a row in 1997, 1998, and 1999. Like Stewart, Gordon is winless so far this season, but on a road course he always has to be considered a favorite.

Because this weekend's race is being held on a road course and not an oval there are a few drivers that bettors must give a little more consideration to than they would in a regular Cup race.

Two of these racers include Juan Pablo Montoya and Robby Gordon. Montoya's first Cup win last season came on the road course at Infineon, and with his vast experience in Indy Car and Formula 1 he's a threat to win on every road course. Gordon also falls into that category, with wins at The Glen and at Infineon in 2003. Montoya is listed at +700 at , while Robby Gordon comes in at +900.

Also worth noting are the road-course ringers that a number of teams will be carting out this weekend to try and snag a top finish. The most notable ringers scheduled to race this weekend are Ron Fellows, Boris Said, and Marcos Ambrose.

Fellows is coming off a win in the Nationwide Series at Montreal's road course last week and is listed at +2200 at . Said follows him at +2500, while Ambrose leads the ringers at +1300.
