Get to the Point

By Jimmy Harris

Jimmy got something to cheer about at long last at the Olympics last week after Team Canada finally pulled in a few medals. I cashed in on a few baseball, basketball, and athletics bets as well, so maybe I can buy my own gold medal since in my current condition I'll never be able to win one.

Looking ahead to this week's Olympic events I'll be laying a few bucks down on some more baseball and basketball, and a little soccer as well.

On Tuesday on the soccer field the men's semifinals will be played between Nigeria and Belgium, and Argentina and Brazil. When it comes to soccer I know nothing about Nigeria or Belgium, but I know some history regarding Argentina and Brazil.

Over at , Nigeria is a +120 favorite in their match, so I'll lay a few bucks down on them. In the other semi, Brazil is a +180 underdog, and I've been told it's always good to take the Brazilians as a 'dog so I definitely will.

There are a number of Olympic baseball games on the Tuesday schedule, including USA versus Chinese Taipei, Cuba versus China, and the Netherlands versus Korea, but while I'm writing this I'm still waiting for odds.

To tell you the truth, though, almost all of the rest of the preliminary baseball matchups are a waste of time because I can guarantee you that Japan, Cuba, South Korea, and the United States are all moving on to the semifinals.

Men's basketball bettors will have to wait until Wednesday to get back to betting. There are four quarterfinal matches on Wednesday, including the undefeated American Redeem Team versus Australia.

Also on the Olympic basketball schedule is Spain versus Croatia, Lithuania versus China, and Argentina versus Greece. I'll be surprised if the USA, Spain, Lithuania, and Argentina don't all advance.
