
The heavyweights return to the ring in Hamburg, Germany on July 12 when titleholder Wladimir Klitschko puts his IBF and WBO World Heavyweight belts on the line versus challenger Tony Thompson.
Klitschko, nicknamed Dr. Steelhammer because of his powerful punches, last fought on February 23, 2008 against Sultan Ibragimov. That bout was to unify the IBO and the WBO titles, and Klitschko walked away with both after winning by unanimous decision.
After the win, the burly Klitschko stands at 50-3 in his professional career with 44 wins by knockout.
It's been a long nine months since Thompson last stepped into the ring. Thompson's last fight took place on September 27, 2007 against Cliff Couser. Thompson easily mopped the floor with Couser, winning the bout by TKO in the second round. That easy victory bumped up Thompson's pro record to 33-1 with 19 wins by knockout.
This could be another easy title defense for Klitschko if the oddsmakers at have pegged it right. Klitschko is a huge -650 favorite at , while Thompson is a +450 underdog.
The fight is scheduled to go 12 rounds, but the oddsmakers don't expect it to last that long. The round prop for this fight has the total set at 9.5, with the under favored at -175.
