Get to the Point

By Jimmy Harris

Jimmy's been keeping his eye on the latest baseball betting streaks and trends recently, and unfortunately what was the longest streak in the majors came to a crashing halt yesterday.

Before battling the Padres on Thursday afternoon, the Brewers had won eight straight games. I jumped on their streak rather late and didn't get much profit out of it, especially after losing a nice wager when Ben Sheets couldn't match Jake Peavy on Thursday.

The Brewers weren't paying off big bucks in those wins as they were favored in all of them while facing mediocre opponents like Cincinnati, Washington, and San Diego, but still a streak is a streak.

The Brewers, though, did keep one trend going in that low-scoring 3-2 loss. The final score in that one fell UNDER the posted total, just like in eight of Milwaukee's previous 12 games.

It looks even more impressive when you factor in that two of those non-UNDERs were pushes. To get to the point, the Brewers have been a solid UNDER play lately due to great pitching and an injured Ryan Braun, and there's a good chance that could continue this weekend when they take on the Dodgers.

The key here is that the series is being played in pitcher-friendly Dodger Stadium. All three of the Dodgers' scheduled starters for this weekend have great numbers, with Derek Lowe especially standing out. Don't be surprised if all three games go UNDER the total this weekend in Dodger-land.

Olympic basketball betting

In Beijing this weekend men's basketball returns to the court on Friday night and runs into the early hours of Saturday morning. Once again Team USA gets the late game, with their tipoff scheduled for Saturday morning at 10:15am ET (that's 9:15pm China time).

The undefeated Americans get their biggest test so far on Saturday, as they take on the defending world champs from Spain.

Team USA improved to 3-0 by throttling Greece 92-69 on Day 6. Kobe Bryant and Chris Bosh led the Americans with 18 points each in the victory. The Spaniards are also undefeated at 3-0 after knocking off Germany 72-59 on Day 6.

Jose Calderon dropped in a team-high 15 points in the win, while Pau Gasol took it easy with 13 points and five rebounds. If the Redeem Team is going to suffer a loss in these Olympic Games it's most likely Spain who will beat them. Check out the Olympic basketball odds at and other online sportsbooks.
