Wake Forest

The college football season kicks off Thursday night with a 14 games on tap. Headlining those contests is the season debut of No. 23 Wake Forest at Baylor.

The Demon Deacons are the only ranked school in action on Thursday night, and they should have little trouble defeating the Bears. Even though they're starting their season on the road Wake Forest is still a 13-point favorite at in Thursday's game.

Last season Wake Forest was 9-4 and went to a bowl game in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history. They ended up beating Connecticut 24-10 as a 2-point favorite in the Meineke Bowl. Another bowl game should be in the Demon Deacons' future this season with what could be their best offense since returning to relevance two years ago.

Quarterback Riley Skinner isn't flashy but he gets the job done, and running back Josh Adams put up impressive numbers as a freshman last year.

The Bears appear to be destined for another year in the Big 12 South cellar. Baylor was winless in the conference last season and a head coaching change (Guy Morriss out, and Art Briles in) likely won't make much of a difference right away with nine starters returning on what was the worst offense in the Big 12 last year.

Of the other 13 games on the schedule only five of them have received odds at BetUS. This includes UTEP at Buffalo (-3.5), Vanderbilt at Miami Ohio (-3.5), NC State at South Carolina (-14.5), Oregon State at Stanford (+3.5), and Troy State at Middle Tennessee State (+7).

There are also two games on the schedule Friday night, including Temple at Army and SMU at Rice. Those four teams combined to win only 11 games last season, so none of them are expected to be contenders for anything this season.

The odds at have the Temple Owls favored by 7 points against the Black Knights, while the Rice Owls are a 3.5-point favorite against the Mustangs.
